How To Build Cornhole Boards

Cornhole is a popular lawn game that is enjoyed by people of all ages. Building your own cornhole boards is a fun and rewarding project that can be completed in just a few hours. Follow these detailed instructions to create your own set of cornhole boards.

Materials:

  • Two 2 ft. x 4 ft. pieces of 1/2 inch plywood
  • Four 2 ft. long 2x4 boards
  • Four 21-inch long 2x4 boards
  • Sixteen 3-inch wood screws
  • Wood glue
  • Saw
  • Drill
  • Jigsaw
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or stain (optional)
  • Tape measure

Instructions:

Step 1: Measure and mark the plywood pieces. Using a tape measure, mark 1/2 inch from the edge of the plywood and then make a mark every 12 inches. Draw a straight line connecting the marks. Repeat this on the second piece of plywood.

Step 2: Cut the plywood pieces to size. Use a saw to cut the plywood pieces along the marked lines.

Step 3: Cut the 2x4 boards. Cut four 2 ft. long 2x4 boards and four 21-inch long 2x4 boards.

Step 4: Build the frame. Place one of the 2 ft. long 2x4 boards at the end of one of the plywood pieces, perpendicular to it. Use wood glue and screws to attach it. Repeat this with the other three 2 ft. long 2x4 boards, one on each corner of the plywood piece.

Step 5: Attach the legs. Place one of the 21-inch long 2x4 boards at the end of one of the 2 ft. long 2x4 boards. Attach it with wood glue and screws. Repeat this with the other three 21-inch long 2x4 boards.

Step 6: Attach the second plywood piece. Place the second plywood piece on top of the frame, aligning the edges. Use wood glue and screws to attach it to the frame.

Step 7: Cut the hole. Use a jigsaw to cut a 6-inch diameter hole in the center of each board, about 9 inches from the top. You can use a stencil or a circular object to trace the shape of the hole before cutting.

Step 8: Sand the boards. Sand the entire board, including the edges and the hole, until it is smooth.

Step 9: Paint or stain the boards (optional). You can add a personal touch to your boards by painting them with your favorite colors or designs. Use weather-resistant paint or stain if you plan to use the boards outdoors.

Step 10: To play cornhole, place the two boards 27 feet apart from each other. Each player takes turns tossing bean bags onto the board, aiming for the hole. The player who gets the most bean bags into the hole wins.

Building your own cornhole boards is a fun and easy project that can be completed with basic tools and materials. With these detailed instructions, you can create your own set of cornhole boards and enjoy hours of fun with family and friends.
